Armin Strom unveils entirely new DUal Time GMT Resonance timepiece

AUGUST 29 2024    |    Geneva Watch Days 2024

Swiss independent watch brand Armin Strom celebrates the 15th anniversary of its fully-integrated Manufacture by reimagining its most historically significant innovation, the resonance complication, in an entirely new Dual Time GMT Resonance First Edition. The new timepiece is presented in a hotly-anticipated 39-mm case size made in 18-karat white gold and limited to 25 pieces.

Embracing a symmetrical design language with two identical time dials, this First Edition timepiece comes in an elegant 39-mm round 18-karat white gold case. And like all Armin Strom First Editions, it includes a 10-year extended warranty.

Armin Strom once again demonstrates its mastery of ‘the science of movement’ with a finely-proportioned Dual Time Resonance timepiece, delivering unprecedented resilience against disruption of the Resonance phenomenon.

Reflecting on Armin Strom’s new Dual Time GMT Resonance, founder Serge Michel noted: “Having two completely independent watch movements in a single timepiece creates the logical demand for an iteration that displays two time zones. The success of our first Dual Time inspired us to build a smaller and more elegant Dual Time Resonance watch. To do this, we further developed our concept and arranged the two movements vertically. And we couldn’t be happier with the result.”

Two dial-side kinetic elements unite to form a mesmerizing spectacle

The kinetic spectacle of Resonance is on full display on the dial side of the timepiece. The synchronized motion of two balance wheels operating in a state of Resonance, combined with the hypnotic pulsation of the clutch spring ‘breathing’ as it transmits vibrations between them, offers their owner a mesmerizing spectacle that brings a sense of wonder to the everyday.

Two fully independent time zones

Another valued aspect of the timepiece is its ability to set the two time zones entirely independently. Most dual time zone movements only permit independent adjustment of the hours, with only a few allowing half-hour settings. However, Armin Strom’s Dual Time GMT Resonance lets users set both the hours and minutes to any desired time on each of two identical dials.

Two movements in one new caliber

The Dual Time GMT Resonance First Edition is powered by the new Armin Strom manufacture caliber ARF22, a manually-wound Resonance movement and the 18th caliber designed and produced in-house under the direction of Claude Greisler, Armin Strom’s co-founder and master watchmaker. Two independent, symmetrically mirrored oscillators operate in anti-phase to become synchronized mirror images of each other via the natural phenomenon of Resonance. The caliber features two mainspring barrels providing a power reserve of 42 hours, all wound by a single crown at 4 o’clock. Two separate gear trains drive the independent time displays. The engraved and mirror-polished day/night indicators depicting the sun and moon are mounted on 24-hour wheels directly on the movement. Two crowns positioned on either side of the case allow for the independent setting of each dial.

While many of the most visually-intriguing features are visible on the dial side, the case back further reveals the distinctive symmetrical architecture of the movement. The Dual Time GMT Resonance movement also offers a unique winding experience with a corresponding dial-side animation. The ratchet click system on the dial side of the timepiece provides this animation on the watch face, transforming the winding of the movement into a multi-sensory experience.

Unlike traditional click mechanisms connected to ratchets, the Dual Time GMT Resonance’s three-dimensional ratchet mechanism is connected to a pinion that is positioned between the two barrels to distribute the load more evenly. This two-part system consists of a bottom gear with Breguet teeth fixed to the main plate, and a top element with a spring connected to the axis. This approach provides more precise engagement and disengagement of the winding mechanism resulting in more consistent performance, more efficient energy transfer, reduced friction and wear on components, smoother operation and better overall durability for the winding system.

Two symmetric dials

The Dual Time GMT Resonance First Edition features two symmetric sky-blue dials, each with a grenage finish. Armin Strom offers the only Resonance timepieces in active production with dual symmetric time dials.

Two symmetric day/night indicators

Dual engraved and mirror-polished day/night indicators depict the sun and moon to indicate AM/PM for each of the time dials.

Two symmetric crowns

Two crowns, positioned on either side of the case at 4 and 8 o’clock, allow each dial to be independently set.

Two straps

Secured by an 18-karat white gold pin buckle, the Dual Time GMT Resonance First Edition comes with two straps: A matte gray alligator strap with sky-blue stitching and a light gray alligator strap with pearl-gray stitching.

Artisanal craftsmanship

For the First Edition, the dials feature a sky-blue grenage finish, surrounded by black azurage chapter rings set with applied polished baton indexes that complement the faceted hands. The engraved and mirror polished day/night indicators depicting the sun and moon are mounted on 24-hour wheels directly on the movement. For the first time, the twin balance bridge is crafted from steel and designed with a flat surface that is hand-polished to achieve a mirror finish in accordance with the highest standards of traditional haute horlogerie decoration.

The lavish hand-finishing and decoration of this caliber includes hand-polished bevels, screws and countersinks, along with circular graining, perlage and Geneva stripes. The juxtaposition of anthracite and silvery tones further emphasizes the visual depth and dramatic contrast.

Chronoswiss presents the ReSec Snake: A Venomous Twist on Modern Mechanical

Known for bold evolutions of mechanical wristwatches and daring designs, Chronoswiss unveils its latest creature: the ReSec Snake. Slithering between heritage and rebellion, this timepiece is a hypnotic blend of color, contrast, and kinetic energy — proof that modern mechanical watchmaking still has a few fangs to bear.

The Snake’s Bite

The ReSec Snake coils into view within a 42mm titanium case, coated with a mesmerizing color-changing PVD-coating that shifts from emerald green to turquoise, depending on the light. It’s not just a case — it’s iridescent armor, capturing the reptilian allure of a serpent in motion. Paired with a contrasting white rubber strap, the Snake wraps around the wrist with smooth, tactile elegance.

But the true venom lies beneath the sapphire crystal. A green CVD-coated dial, hand-guillochéd in the Lucerne Atelier, pulses with depth and hypnotic texture. It’s a dial that doesn’t just tell time — it seduces it.

Take a closer look, and the architecture reveals itself: the iconic 3D regulator layout of the ReSec series slithers across the dial, framed by green hour and minute rings and a retrograde second display, like the flick of a serpent’s tongue. Underneath, the exposed gear train glimmers in contrasting tones — a mechanical exoskeleton that moves with silent precision.

Fangs Beneath the Surface

Powering this cold-blooded beauty is the Chronoswiss Manufacture Caliber C.6005, featuring a 55-hour power reserve, ruthenium-plated finishing, and a radial Côtes de Genève motif. It’s mechanical watchmaking at its sharpest: sleek, silent, and engineered to strike.

Limited. Lethal.

Only 100 pieces of the ReSec Snake will ever exist — a rare breed for collectors with a taste for the untamed. The ReSec Snake is a statement: of daring, of detail, and of defiance — proving once again that at Chronoswiss, we don’t follow rules. We shed them.

Introducing the Armin Strom Mirrored Force Resonance Ruby

ARMIN STROM introduces a compelling new interpretation of its most emblematic complication with the debut of the Mirrored Force Resonance Ruby. This creation stands out through its extraordinary natural ruby dial, sourced and crafted by a local Swiss stone artisan. The brand selected only genuine ruby exhibiting depth of colour, fine inclusions, and naturally occurring variations—features that are not flaws but signatures of authenticity, shaped by geological processes over millions of years. As light moves across the dial, subtle tonal shifts appear, infusing the watch with a vibrant mineral presence that contrasts strikingly with the symmetry and modernity of the exposed mechanics.

Beyond its visual impact, this edition embodies ARMIN STROM’s belief that materials must carry meaning. While natural ruby asserts its aesthetic and symbolic presence on the dial, synthetic ruby jewels within the movement fulfil their longstanding horological role of reducing friction and ensuring long-term precision. It is a thoughtful dialogue between nature and engineering, where raw mineral beauty coexists with technical necessity.

At the core of the watch lies the hand-finished Calibre ARF21, a manufacture movement entirely designed and produced in-house. Its defining feature is the brand’s patented Resonance Clutch Spring, which connects two independent regulating systems, enabling the balance wheels to oscillate in harmonic resonance. This phenomenon enhances chronometric stability and is visually showcased by a pusher at 2 o’clock that resets both seconds hands simultaneously—a dramatic demonstration of mechanical synchronicity in action. Operating at 3.5 Hz (25,200 vph) and offering a 48-hour power reserve, the movement transforms a centuries-old scientific principle into contemporary watchmaking mastery.

Craftsmanship remains central to ARMIN STROM’s ethos. The bridges feature hand-polished bevels, black-polished screws, perlage, and circular graining, with Geneva stripes enriching the reverse side. As with every ARMIN STROM timepiece, each watch is assembled twice, ensuring absolute performance and finishing quality. This meticulous approach, combined with the vibrant ruby dial, creates a visually dynamic composition—a living interplay between stone, metal, and motion.

Encased in a 43 mm stainless steel case and fitted with a grey Alcantara strap featuring white stitching, the Mirrored Force Resonance Ruby delivers both presence and refinement. It is not merely a new dial variation, but an artistic expression grounded in horological integrity—an encounter between natural geology and mechanical resonance, distilled into a timepiece of exceptional character.

Angelus Unveils Flying Tourbillon Skeleton Titanium in Vivid Orange

Angelus unveils the Flying Tourbillon Skeleton Titanium, Orange Edition, a vivid expression of horological energy and design. Limited to just 25 pieces, this timepiece transforms skeletonised mechanics into a canvas of colour and contrast. The satin-finished titanium case frames a deep black movement, animated by bright orange accents that highlight the time display and extend to three interchangeable straps. The openwork calibre, designed as a series of interlocking circles, adds architectural depth and visual dynamism.

Every detail of this 42.5 mm watch reflects a unique energy. Chromatic energy flows through the orange highlights. Customisable energy is offered by the quick-release strap system, allowing seamless transitions between black alligator leather, orange rubber, and integrated titanium. Light energy emerges from the skeletonised movement, while structural energy is revealed in the layered construction. Graphic energy is embodied in the three-dimensional architecture of the A-310 calibre.

The dial features a floating orange minute track above a black flange, with hour markers crafted for the first time by Angelus in monolithic blocks of Super-LumiNova. These luminous elements ensure legibility in low light and reinforce the watch’s modern aesthetic. At the heart of the case lies a carbon composite chamber, lightweight yet rigid, surrounded by a modular titanium cage that enhances stability and mechanical appeal.

The A-310 calibre showcases Angelus’s signature three-spoke wheels, leading the eye to the flying tourbillon suspended without an upper bridge. Supported by a 160° angled bridge, this asymmetrical design intensifies visual tension and balance. The tourbillon completes a rotation every minute, oscillates at 4 Hz, and offers a 60-hour power reserve. The Flying Tourbillon Skeleton Titanium, Orange Edition embodies the Angelus L.A.B. philosophy—Legacy and Beyond—where technical mastery meets bold design to elevate mechanics into contemporary art.
