Andreas Strehler is an independent Swiss watchmaker renowned for his minimalist mechanical masterpieces. Since establishing his own atelier in 1995, Strehler has pursued perfection through research, development, and manufacturing of all watch components in-house.
Each of his proprietary calibers, like the patented "Remontior d'égalité" constant-force mechanism, are conceived and constructed with the refined aesthetics of living micro-engineered organisms. Working as a true independent ("watchmaker for the few"), Strehler creates limited series and custom timepieces embodying both traditional hand-finishing and cutting-edge technical innovation.
Through long-term partnerships with leading brands like H. Moser, Harry Winston and Maurice Lacroix, Strehler has also developed prizewinning movements. He founded UhrTeil AG in 2005 to attain absolute precision through integrated engineering, prototyping and production capabilities. Strehler's distinctive vision of mechanical minimalism, from models like the Papillon and Cocon, has earned him recognition as one of contemporary haute horology's most accomplished independent creators.
The Papillon d'Or from independent Swiss watchmaker Andreas Strehler celebrates 20 years of his watchmaking career. Presented at Baselworld 2015, it features Strehler's signature butterfly-shaped gold bridge at the center of an open dial.
Powered by a manually wound caliber, the watch offers a generous 78-hour power reserve. The power remaining is displayed on the rear via a small differential gear mechanism, a technical feat fitting of Strehler's engineering expertise.
Superb finishing is applied throughout, from beveled edges to true conical wheels which allow smooth winding. A butterfly's graceful form is honored in the exquisite solid gold bridge supporting two transparent sapphire crystal wheels.
Each component is crafted by hand in Strehler's Swiss workshop, combining traditional artistry with modern precision. The Papillon d'Or pays tribute to both Strehler's anniversary and the natural wonder of the butterfly's elegant flight.
