Perpetual Moon 38 Night Tide - Diamonds making waves

JUNE 13 2024    |    Novelties

Waxing, gibbous, blue: the power of the moon imposes itself on the Earth and even more so, on the seas. Perpetual Moon 38 Night Tide celebrates the fluctuating pull of this celestial body on the water. A large moon disc appears over vast waves. Made of mother-of-pearl and ruthenium, they rise one after the other in a cascade of soft curves. This scene, illuminated by diamonds, celebrates the femininity, elegance and evocative power of Arnold & Son’s watchmaking.

Powerful and plentiful, the waves of Perpetual Moon 38 Night Tide herald heavy seas. In the blue of the night, the tide is at its highest, and so are the rollers. The moon, capricious and triumphant, imposes its will. The gradations of the water are topped with a sparkling foam. Beneath the peaceful light of Selene, the ocean rages on.

Arnold & Son interprets this powerfully symbolic scene through mechanisms and minerals. The astronomical moon complication of Perpetual Moon 38 Night Tide is adorned in mother-of-pearl and ruthenium: a delicate, evocative composition that fully expresses the dial-makers’ expertise. The mother-of-pearl marquetry, ruthenium crystal inlays and abundance of diamonds symbolise the painstaking care lavished on the women's collections of Switzerland’s most English brand.

Azure, navy, ink, midnight
Perpetual Moon 38 Night Tide is sculpted from a block of white gold. Once shaped, the 38 mm diameter and 10.44 mm thick case is adorned with 80 high-clarity diamonds. Together with the brilliant-cut diamonds adorning the buckle and the marquise-cut stones on the dial, they give a total weight of 2.62 carats. This gem-setting announces the ornamental richness with which Arnold & Son has composed this women’s complication.

Wave after wave, trough after trough, shades of blue and grey follow one another, creating a jumble of undulating seas, mother-of-pearl and ruthenium. Above this scene, a starry sky, punctuated by luminescent hand-painted constellations, is filled with an immense moon. Its surface, also made of ruthenium crystals, lights up the sky. This exceptional material has become a signature of Arnold & Son, adding preciousness, light and texture to its creations.

The grande dame of mechanisms
This limited edition of 18 pieces brings the watchmaking excellence of Arnold & Son to women. The Swiss brand has dedicated the smallest movement in its collection to Perpetual Moon 38.

At 29.4 mm, the A&S1612 calibre has been sized to fit the case. The hand-wound movement continues the house's tradition of calibres with long power reserves, reaching 90 hours.

Her Majesty the Moon
The star complication of the A&S1612 calibre is its moon phase. True to Arnold & Son's astronomical principle, Perpetual Moon 38 Night Tide features a moon disc almost as large as the calibre itself. The successive shapes of its crescent occupy the large aperture between 10 and 2 o'clock, while the form of its cut-out faithfully recreates the appearance of the moon.

In keeping with its tradition, Arnold & Son has given this moon phase an accuracy of 122 years. Continuously rising, it will take more than a century for this moon to lag one day behind the real one in our skies, watching over the oceans.

Armin Strom Unveils the Dual Time GMT Resonance Rose Gold

Armin Strom presents a refined and visually striking evolution of its celebrated Dual Time GMT Resonance collection with the debut of the Dual Time GMT Resonance Rose Gold. Rendered for the first time in a 39 mm 18K rose‑gold case, the timepiece introduces a warm and elegant reinterpretation of the brand’s technically driven design language. Limited to 50 pieces worldwide, this edition pairs the Maison’s signature resonance innovation with a rich new aesthetic personality, blending contemporary elegance with mechanical sophistication.

A New Expression of Design & Craftsmanship
The new Rose Gold edition distinguishes itself through its interplay of warm tones and finely executed textures. The 18K rose‑gold case forms a glowing frame around the black‑gold grenage dial, a surface enriched by depth, contrast, and granular refinement. The dial’s twin layouts—each dedicated to one time zone—are clearly defined by black azurage chapter rings, ensuring intuitive reading while maintaining the balanced symmetry that defines the Resonance line. The rose‑gold‑coloured, faceted and polished hands, together with matching applied indexes, elevate the aesthetic with a luxurious brightness. At six o’clock on each sub‑dial, polished and blackened steel sun-and-moon day/night discs add functional clarity and a poetic visual touch. Completing the ensemble is a matte anthracite alligator strap accented with grey stitching and secured with a matching 18K rose‑gold pin buckle, creating a cohesive, modern, and refined profile.

The Science of Movement: Calibre ARF22
At the heart of the watch lies Armin Strom’s hand‑wound, in‑house Calibre ARF22, a movement defined by the brand’s patented resonance clutch system. This mechanism couples two independent balance wheels and allows them to synchronise through resonance, a natural physical phenomenon that enhances chronometric stability. What might otherwise remain a theoretical curiosity is transformed into a practical complication: each regulating organ governs its own time display, enabling two entirely independent time zones. Each dial also features a corresponding day/night indicator, making the watch particularly intuitive for world travellers. Operating at 3.5 Hz (25,200 vph) and offering a 42‑hour power reserve, the ARF22 movement brings a dynamic, kinetic quality to the dial, where the twin oscillators interact in real time. The aesthetic presentation of the movement reflects haute horlogerie values, with meticulous hand‑polished bevels, black‑polished steel components, circular graining, perlage, and Côtes de Genève on full display through sapphire crystals on both sides. In keeping with Armin Strom tradition, each watch is assembled twice, ensuring uncompromising mechanical integrity and flawless finishing.

Timeless Precision: Greubel Forsey’s QP Balancier Redefines the Perpetual Calendar

Greubel Forsey proudly unveils the QP Balancier, a revolutionary interpretation of the perpetual calendar that merges intuitive functionality with uncompromising chronometric performance. Limited to just 22 pieces in white gold, this timepiece represents a new pinnacle in haute horlogerie.

At the heart of the QP Balancier lies Greubel Forsey’s patented Mechanical Computer, a 25-part mechanical brain that “understands” the rules of the Gregorian calendar. This innovation allows the watch to adjust instantly in either direction, restart flawlessly after months unwound, and remain programmed until February 28, 2100—all without the need for pushers or complex crown positions.

The QP Balancier integrates 12 indications—including hours, minutes, seconds, power reserve, day, date, month, leap year, day/night, 24-hour display, calendar year, and a patented function selector—into a single crown interface. This makes it the most user-friendly perpetual calendar ever created, eliminating the need for manuals or reset tools.

Aesthetically, the watch is a study in purity and harmony. Its multi-level gold dial presents calendar information in a clear, linear format, flanked by leap year and day/night indicators. The tactile feedback during quick-correction mode offers a unique sensory connection between wearer and mechanism.

Housed in a 45.1 mm white gold case, the QP Balancier features Greubel Forsey’s signature 30° inclined balance wheel, a high-mass, variable-inertia system with gold mean-time screws. The movement comprises 612 hand-finished components, including twin fast-rotating barrels that deliver a 72-hour chronometric power reserve.

With the QP Balancier, Greubel Forsey has not only redefined the perpetual calendar—it has perfected it.

Reinventing the Rhythm of Time: Dominique Renaud Presents the Pulse60

Haute Horlogerie Dominique Renaud (HHDR) marks its official debut with the launch of the Pulse60, unveiled in preview at the Time To Watches fair in Geneva (April 14–19, 2026). This first creation of the new Dominique Renaud brand introduces a radical approach to low‑frequency mechanical watchmaking and expresses the purest form of Renaud’s watchmaking philosophy.

A Vision Rooted in First Principles
Dominique Renaud, co‑founder of the legendary Renaud & Papi manufacture and creator of numerous landmark complications, returns with a renewed focus on foundational movement principles. Guided by the maxim “form ever follows function,” his work embraces clarity, purity and a minimalist, self‑evident aesthetic.

The establishment of HHDR in Tolochenaz brings together a team of watchmakers, designers and engineers in a collaborative, idea‑driven environment. HHDR is conceived as a living laboratory — a place where experimentation, shared expertise and long‑term exploration shape new forms of contemporary horology.

Pulse60 — A New Mechanical Language
At the heart of the Pulse60 is the newly developed BUA2024 movement, which embraces an ultra‑low 1 Hz frequency — just one oscillation per second, echoing the natural rhythm of the human heart. This approach reduces escapement shocks and disturbances, transforming time measurement into a slower, more embodied rhythm.

To master this low frequency, the movement features a monumental 20 mm high‑inertia balance wheel, inspired by marine chronometers. Its large moment of inertia stabilizes the rate by absorbing minute variations in energy and motion.

Dominique Renaud has also completely reimagined the regulating organ, allowing amplitude greater than 360° without knocking, with a theoretical range reaching approximately 700°. This unprecedented freedom greatly improves static rate stability by allowing the balance to follow its own natural dynamics over a longer portion of its oscillation.

A Design That Expresses Its Mechanics
The Pulse60’s innovative mechanics are reflected in its seamless, fluid architecture:

- A domed crystal with no bezel
- Lug‑less construction and integrated strap
- Three‑part case structure
- Diamond‑cut or guilloché dial details
- A patented offset regulation system placed outside the balance wheel, offering a completely unobstructed view of the slow‑beating 1 Hz oscillator

The display includes an hour‑minute dial at 12 o’clock, a natural dead half‑second at 9 o’clock, and a torque indicator at 3 o’clock. The caseback reveals a minimalist composition of circular and linear forms, framing the openworked escapement line and double‑roller assembly.
