Chronoswiss has officially introduced the Opus Dakar Sundown, a striking new interpretation of the celebrated Opus Dakar that captures the fleeting magic of sunset over the desert. Housed in a distinctive 41mm two-tone case crafted from stainless steel and 18ct red gold, the timepiece masterfully blends the rugged spirit of adventure with refined luxury. The warm glow of precious metal flows seamlessly into the robust steel construction, mirroring the final golden rays dancing across endless dunes. This ultimate celebration of contrasts is beautifully completed by a sand-colored nubuck leather strap that evokes the warm tones of sunlit, weathered terrain.

At the heart of the watch beats the Chronoswiss Manufacture Caliber C.741S, a fully skeletonized automatic chronograph movement that transforms every measurement of time into a visual spectacle. Designed for legibility and visual complexity, the central chronograph seconds hand sweeps the openworked dial in harmony with a 30-minute counter at 12 o'clock and a 12-hour counter at 6 o'clock. A running small seconds display at 9 o'clock provides a constant indication of the movement's heartbeat, while a highly unique, analogue pointer date display at 3 o'clock enhances its everyday practicality.

The skeletonized, CVD-coated brown dial draws inspiration from the rich palette of the desert, where warm tones create a composition that is both timeless and adventurous. By exposing the intricate mechanics beneath the surface, every skeletonized bridge, wheel, and component directly contributes to a captivating, mechanical canvas. The hands are crafted in the elegant Breguet Losange shape and rhodium-plated to ensure striking contrast against the dark, galvanic black perlage of the base plate.

Crafted in solid 23 pieces, the 41mm case features an 18ct red gold bezel with partial knurling, a screw-down case back with a red gold coin-edge ring, and Chronoswiss’s iconic onion crown. The total weight of gold used in this exceptional construction is 21.4 grams. Offering a water resistance of 3 bar (30 meters), the watch is equipped with screw-in lugs utilizing the patented Autobloc system. The "Midnight Purple" story continues at Armin Strom with a bold new chapter. This distinctive colour, deeply rooted in the history of the independent manufacture and inherited from founder Armin Strom himself, now extends beyond the dial and into the movement itself. Expressed through the newly released Orbit Midnight Purple, the signature midnight purple fumé dial remains at the centre of the composition, paired for the first time with a frosted midnight purple mainplate beneath to strengthen the visual connection between display and mechanics.

Powering the watch is the manufacture Calibre ASS20, developed and produced entirely in-house around the world's first on-demand date display on a ceramic bezel. This innovative mechanism rethinks the relationship between wearer and complication by displaying the date only when requested. Activated by a pusher at 10 o'clock, the date hand moves from its neutral position to indicate the current date on the bezel and advances automatically at midnight. A second press returns it discreetly to 12 o'clock, leaving the dial free from unnecessary information.

Beyond its avant-garde functionality, the timepiece focuses heavily on exceptional visual details. Hand-polished steel hands and applied hour markers are filled with Super-LumiNova®, complemented by signature numerals at 12 and 6 o’clock crafted from solid Super-LumiNova® blocks that create a striking visual presence after dark. Housed in a 43.4 mm stainless steel case framed by a black ceramic bezel, the timepiece is completed by a fully integrated stainless steel bracelet, delivering a cohesive fusion of modern sports-luxury and unique aesthetics.

Visible through the sapphire crystal and caseback, the movement highlights Armin Strom's dedication to transparent mechanics and haute horlogerie finishing. The purple mainplate creates a distinctive visual foundation, contrasting with rhodium-coated components and hand-finished finger bridges, while hand-polished bevels, perlage, and circular graining enrich every surface. To ensure both mechanical precision and finishing excellence, each watch is assembled twice. Rooted in the firm belief of its legendary founder that a thin dress watch represents the ultimate epitome of functional elegance, this model is meticulously designed from the ground up to balance modern sophistication with time-honored craft. Cloaked in 950 platinum—a noble metal long synonymous with rarity and traditional savoir-faire—the watch establishes a quiet yet unmistakable presence on the wrist that will immediately resonate with serious connoisseurs.

The defining silhouette of this timepiece remains the signature double-ellipse case, an iconic geometry originally created by master watchmaker Daniel Roth to beautifully frame complex horological mechanisms. To complement this distinctive shape, downward-sloping lugs have been elegantly integrated to ensure optimal wrist comfort while providing a handsome architectural contrast against the light-tan calfskin leather strap. The dial base is forged from solid white gold, displaying a mesmerizing pinstripe guilloché texture executed entirely by hand using a traditional rose engine. Each line is individually carved with masterful control over depth and spacing, beautifully bordered by a gold minute disc finished with a classic filet sauté edge and sharp black typography.

Beneath this stunning facade lies the core of the timepiece: the ultra-thin, hand-wound manufacture Calibre DR002, fully developed and assembled at La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton under the expert guidance of master watchmakers Michel Navas and Enrico Barbasini. Tasked with striking the perfect balance between chronometric precision and a generous power reserve within a slim 3.1 mm structure, the watchmakers increased the movement's frequency to 4 Hz. To sustain this high frequency without sacrificing energy efficiency or structural stability, the calibre incorporates a specially refined balance wheel featuring a variable-inertia geometry and adjustable counterweights.

An open sapphire caseback reveals the true artistic discipline of the manufacture, where technical engineering and aesthetic restraint seamlessly converge. The movement's bridges are decorated with demanding hand-finishing details, most notably the internal angles which are rendered in a rare, rounded bercé form. Requiring at least twice the execution time of a standard flat bevel, this traditional decoration involves polishing a precise curved radius along the edges to create a brilliant, uniform profile. Shaped and hand-polished in-house using a traditional cabron tool, these components reinforce the brand's unwavering commitment to its guiding philosophy: "La Montre Objet d'Art".
